RHYTHMS

A tool that creates rhythms of motifs

Textile Rhythms is a tool that explores a fusion of Indian patterns and poetic rhythms through computation. This tool allows users to import their own motifs, weaving them into rhythmic sequences that mirror the intricate pattern structures found in traditional Indian textile crafts.

TEXTILE

Across Indian arts and crafts, particularly in textiles, a rich tapestry of patterns recurs in rows. These patterns, ranging from organic to geometric, represent elements from the daily lives, nature, and traditions of the Indian people. For instance, consider the saree, a fabric draped by the majority of Indian women, which becomes a canvas upon which vibrant patterns infuse into everyday life.

RHYTHM

Similarly in poetry, the final words of each line often follow an innate rhythm, such as AAAA, AABB, ABAB, ABBA, ABCA, ABCB, and so on.

TEXTILE x RHYTHMS

This tool merges the two, creating rhythmic patterns of motifs. It randomly selects a poetic rhythm for each row, combines it with user-input motifs, and generates unique sequences. These sequences can be printed onto fabrics, resulting in clothing sets that are not only individually distinctive but also harmoniously connected through a shared visual language.
